Four-goal first period propels Gaels over cross-town rival RMC

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 24th, 2018) – The Queen's Gaels (11-3-0) defeated the RMC Paladins (4-11-2) by a score of 7-2 in Saturday night OUA in men's hockey action.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels got off to a red-hot start, scoring two goals in quick succession within the opening five minutes on goals delivered by Slater Doggett and Nevin Guy.

The Gaels would add another two goals just past the midway mark of the period, as Luke Bertolucci and Owen Stout added their names to the score-sheet. After the 4th Queens goal, RMC Netminder Brad van Schubert was pulled in favour of backup Austin Hannaford.

The Paladins came out with a good response to open the second period, chipping away at the Gaels advantage as Cameron Lamport converted on his own rebound chance, making the score 4-1. However, it wouldn't take long for the Gaels to restore the advantage, as they capitalized on a power-play wrister from second year forward Luke Edwards

With a little less than five minutes left to go in the 2ndperiod, the Paladins would add a second goal after some well sustained pressure in the offensive zone. RMC was able to capitalize on a rebound chance for a second time in the game, with Rhett Wilcox tucking it past Justin Fazio, making the game 5-2 headed to the second intermission.

Both teams had plenty of chances in the 3rdperiod, with six separate power-play opportunities between the two teams. However, neither team was able to capitalize for the majority of the period. Finally, the Gaels powerplay broke through, putting up two late insurance markers courtesy of Frankie Vilardi and Duncan Campbell

The Gaels would skate away with a convincing 7 to 2 victory, taking the OUA season series against the Paladins two games to none.
