OTTAWA, Ont. (Sunday, October 21, 2018) - The Queen's Gaels (8-3-5) suffer a 1-0 loss in a road game against the No.3 Ottawa Gee-Gees (14-1-1) in their final game of the OUA regular season.
GAME FLOW
Queen's held their own in the first half of the game, playing a strong defensive game and holding the Gee Gees to a 0-0 tie at half.
The only shot on goal for the Gaels was attempted by
Sarah Nixon (Oakville, Ont.) in the 14th minute but was ultimately unsuccessful.
In the second half of the game the first and only goal of the game was scored by the Gee-Gees' Katherine Bearne in the 49th minute.
The Tricolour played a tight defensive game for the remainder of the half, keeping the Gee Gees from extending their lead.
The Gaels were unable to find the back of the Ottawa net for the remainder of the 90 minutes and the game ended with a score of 1-0 in favour of the Gee-Gees.
OFFENSIVE STRUGGLES
The Gaels haven't scored a goal in the past three games as they enter playoff time on a slump. The slump affected the OUA leaderboard as
Jenny Wolever's league-leading 13 goals weren't enough to hang on to the OUA lead. McMaster's Stephanie Roberts scored a hat trick on Sunday afternoon in an 8-0 win over Algoma to take the league scoring crown with 14.
BY THE NUMBERS
2 - Despite the loss, the Gaels' clinched the second seed in OUA East at the end of the regular season
9 - shots saved by Queen's goalie
Alexa MacLatchy-Gaudet (Upper Tantallon, N.S.)
