(October 15, 2018) – Nadia Popov (Newmarket, Ont.) of women's rugby and James Lewis (Toronto, Ont.) of men's ultimate have been named the Gabriel Pizza Queen's University Varsity Athletes of the Week for the period ending October 15, 2018.
 
Nadia Popov (Newmarket, Ont.) of the women's rugby team is the Queen's University Female Athlete of the Week. Popov had a game-high 14 points as she led her Gaels to a 29-24 win in the OUA semifinal. She had two first half trys as well as two conversions as the Gaels booked their ticket to the OUA Championship for a second year in a row.
 
It was a special game for Popov who played her final match at Nixon Field. The Gaels needed her production as the Marauders made a late push eventually losing by just a single score. With the game tied 7-7 in the first half, Popov scored back-to-back trys to help the Gaels to a 17-7 lead at halftime.
 
James Lewis (Toronto, Ont.) of the men's ultimate team is the Queen's University Male Athlete of the Week. Lewis was the top player in this past weekend's Men's Ultimate National Championship as he took home MVP honours. The third year cutter pushed the Gaels to the top of the podium with his outstanding play all weekend. He was dominant on both sides, making huge stops on defence and throwing with precision on offence.
 
His elite performance was exemplified in the championship game against McGill where he had four assists and two goals to help the Gaels secure their third National Championship in the past four years.
