KINGSTON, Ont. (September 3, 2017) - The No.5 Queen's Gaels (2-0-0) took down the visiting Nipissing Lakers (1-2-1) 4-2 on a rainy afternoon at Richardson Stadium.
GAME FLOW
The rain poured down leading into the game, and both teams dealt with cold and wet conditions throughout. The Lakers came out strong to start, getting pressure in on the Gaels end and finally resulting in a goal from Andrea Young past Gaels keeper Alexa Maclatchy-Gaudet (Upper Tantallon, N.S.).
Minutes later the Gaels were able to even the game.
Laura Callender (Nepean, Ont.) broke through the Lakers.
A great strike in the 25th minute from Young to the top far corner put the Lakers back in front 2-1, giving Young her second of the half.
Queen's opened up the second half with a quick goal of their own.
Alexandra Doane (Brookside, N.S.) potted her second career U SPORTS goal in as many games to tie the game up once again.
Minutes later
Jenny Wolever (Toronto) tried to connect with Doane again feeding a cross to the far post, but Doane's deflection went just over the bar. Wolever got another chance later in the half and foundÂ
Taylor Green (Fall River, N.S.) who was able to connect with her first career U SPORTS goal giving Queen's a 3-2 lead.
The Gaels added another goal, this one off the foot ofÂ
Matija Skoko (Toronto) who fired a shot just under the bar putting Queen's up 4-2.
