LONDON, Ont. (March 4, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels fell in straight sets 3-0 to the No.10 Western Mustangs in their OUA quarterfinal match on Saturday night in London. The set scores finished 25-15, 25-15 and 25-20.

With the loss the Gaels see their season come to a close while Western advances to the OUA Final Four.

GAME FLOW

The Gaels dug themselves in a hole early in the opening set trailing 11-7 before Danielle Corrigan (North Vancouver, B.C.) was able to put down a kill to get Queen's to within three. The Marauders put together a run though, taking nine of the next 11 points through the technical timeout. The streak included three aces from Aja Gyimah and the Mustangs closed out the set from there 25-15.

Queen's started off the second set with a quick lead moving to 5-4 on the home side Mustangs. Attack errors started to catch up with the Gaels though, giving Western the chance to put together another run with five straight and 11 of the next 14. Western was first to the turn and closed out another set win at 25-15.

With their backs against the wall the Gaels fought hard in the third set hoping to keep their season alive. Three blocks from Western including two from Kelsey Veltman put the Mustangs ahead 7-4 early. Trailing 21-13 int he set Queen's fought back with Corrigan serving the Gaels to five more points and six straight. Another Western block turned the momentum though as the home team pushed toward the final point.

Match point saw Gyimah finish the Gaels off with a kill to take the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
