Gaels fall to the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked Ravens

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 10, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels men's basketball team dropped a decision to the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked Carleton Ravens on Friday evening at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

Isse Ibrahim led the Gaels with 12 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the field. Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) added 10 points and three steals for the Gaels (6-11), who will look to snap their current losing streak to Ottawa on Saturday night. The Ravens (16-0) remain the only undefeated team in the country, and head to York to take on the Lions Saturday night.

GAME FLOW
After going down 23-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Gaels surrendered the first nine points of the second, prompting a quick timeout from head coach Stephan Barrie. The No. 1 team in the country continued to roll out its up-tempo offence throughout the half, however, shooting 46.0% in the first two quarters. The Ravens picked up 18 second-chance points in the half off of 13 offensive rebounds.
The Gaels found their offensive stride late in the second-quarter, as Ibrahim (Toronto) picked up two three-point baskets while Vincent Wood (Toronto) added a lay-up. The men still faced an uphill battle at the halftime break, heading into the locker room down 51-26.

The Ravens hit a minor cold spell early in the second half, missing nine shots in a row after opening the third quarter with a three-point bucket. The Gaels went on a 6-0 run as a result, and got the deficit down to just over 20. Queen's held the most potent offence in the country to just 13 points in the third, but could not manage to significantly cut into the deficit by the end of the period.

Queen's could not muster up a significant comeback attempt in the final 10 minutes of play against the Ravens – who also boast the U SPORT's top defence in terms of points allowed per game (60.1) and rebound margin (15.9) – and dropped their 10th straight contest.

90.8- The Ravens average an OUA best of 90.8 points per game
6- Ibrahim now has six games with 10 or more points on the season
64- Carleton led the board battle with 64 rebounds, compared to 34 from Queen's
