GAME FLOW
The Queen's Gaels started their first set with high intensity coming off their three set win over the Nipissing Lakers Saturday. However, the Gaels were unable to find their groove and struggled to make kills early. The Tricolour had several attack attempts but were unable to get the ball past the strong York blocks. The Lions quickly took the lead and held the Gaels to 15 points. Queen's battled hard throughout the set but ended on a serving error. The score of the first set was 25-15.
The second set showed more luck to the Gaels but ultimately did not end in their favour. Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) and Julia Wiercigroch (Mississauga, Ont.) were both able to find openings in the York defence and had four and two kills respectively. The Gaels maintained their composure and continued to send attacks on York.
Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) also found an opening but the Tricolour were unsuccessful in catching the Lions lead. The final score of the set was 25-18 in favour of the Lions.
The Gaels took the first point of the third set, fighting to stay in the game. Neville brought the momentum early in the set, notching consecutive kills. Olivia van Barren (Ottawa, Ont.) found a few kills continuing the intensity and Saffron van der Linde (Vancouver) took a point for the Gaels on a strong block. The Tricolour began closing the gap on the Lions with kills by Natalie Crews (North Vancouver, B.C.) and van Barren but the Gaels couldn't catch the lead set by York.
