Epic comeback by No.10 Gaels leads to 4-3 overtime triumph

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 4, 2017) – It was quite the finish on Saturday night for the No. 10 Queen's Gaels (5-1-0-1). The Tricolour mounted an amazing comeback in the final minutes of regulation and overtime to beat the Laurentian Voyageurs (2-0-2-1). Jessica Wakefield (Lucan, Ont.) scored twice, including the overtime winner to lead the Gaels to victory.

GAMEFLOW
The first period featured multiple highlight reel saves from Queen's goaltender Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.). At the seven minute mark, Pascal slid across the crease to deny a Laurentian scoring chance and keep the game even. At the 16:51 mark she was beat however, when Voyageurs forward Samantha Morell got a shot past Pascal's glove side and into the top corner of the net to hand the Voyageurs a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Laurentian would add to their lead on the power play at 11:01 when Annie Sheridan put one past Pascal to make the score 2-0. The Gaels would not give up, though, as just over a minute later, Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) was able to bang home a rebound off a Kaylie Dennis (London, Ont.) shot to cut the Voyageurs lead to one goal heading into the third period.

The game looked to be all but over when the Voyageurs stretched their lead to 3-1 on Morell's second of the night at 12:09. The Gaels had other ideas though. The tricolour would pull Pascal from the net with 4:16 remaining to make a 6 on 4 advantage in a last-ditch effort. Wakefield got the rally started with less than two minutes remaining when she beat Voyageurs goalie Karen Collins for her third of the season. Halladay would score her second of the game on another rebound near the crease with just 47 seconds left to tie the game at 3-3 and force overtime.

In the extra frame, Queen's was able to ride the momentum from their comeback to a quick finish. Wakefield found herself in front of the net and slid the puck into the Voyageurs net just 25 seconds into overtime to send the Gaels faithful into a frenzy and win the game 4-3.

Pascal picked up the win in net for the Gaels, while registering 30 saves. Collins would take the loss for the Voyageurs despite making 37 saves of her own.
