Women win 93-35, men use OT as Gaels basketball defeats local St. Lawrence College teams in exhibition

KINGSTON, Ont. (September 28, 2016) - In what has become an annual tune-up game for each team, the Queen's Gaels and St. Lawrence Vikings took to the hardwood once again on Wednesday night at St Lawrence College in Kingston. The Gaels managed to escape with a win for both their women's and men's basketball teams, although the men need overtime to do so.

The Queen's women's team came out firing in the opening game of the evening. After the first quarter the Gaels held a 17-6 lead. From there, a strong defensive effort from Queen's led them the rest of the way, as the Vikings only scored four points in the second quarter, another 10 in the third and 15 in the final frame.

Queen's poured in a 93 point performance offensively taking the 93-35 victory.

In the men's game things started out strong for the Gaels as well finding themselves up 20-7 after the opening frame against St. Lawrence. The Vikings battled back however and cut the deficit to just two points at halftime with the Gaels in front 33-31.

After leading by seven in the third St. Lawrence stayed with Queen's and rode their momentum into a strong fourth where the Vikings were in front 76-75 near the mid-way point of the fourth. Neither team could settle things in regulation and the game went to overtime.

Queen's held an 85-84 lead with 27 seconds on the clock and were able to kill time and stop the Vikings to claim the win 85-84.
