Gaels hand McMaster first loss of season in 27-11 win

KINGSTON, Ont. (September 24, 2016) - On 'Think Pink' weekend and the Queen's men's rugby hall of fame day the Gaels (3-1) did not disappoint as they took care of the visiting McMaster Marauders (3-1) 27-11 on Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

This Saturday was "Think Pink" day in support of breast cancer awareness. Breast cancer affects millions of people and together we can make a future without breast cancer possible. Fans are encouraged to help varsity athletes and men's rugby reach their fundraising goals by donating online to the Varsity Athlete CIBC Run For The Cure page or the Men's rugby page.

GAME FLOW
In front of yet another great crowd at Nixon Field with many alumni back to support the Gaels, it was the Marauders who silenced the home team to start picking up a try from Jack McRogers to ahead 5-0.

The Gaels were able to respond as Michael Douros (Toronto) put down a try finishing off a five-yard run. After Dylan Young (Toronto) nailed the conversion Queen's was ahead 7-5 at just 11 minutes in.

At the 30 minute mark, McMaster went back out in front after Will Kelly and Young traded a pair of penalty goals each with Queen's ending up in front again 13-11.

In the second half, the Gaels started off with a big try from Brendan Blaikie (North Vancouver, B.C.) putting the Gaels up 20-11 after a successful conversion. Kai Lloyd (Mississauga, Ont.) added an insurance marker that saw another successful conversion and Queen's took the victory 27-11.

HALL OF FAMERS
The Gaels honour their newest hall of fame members tonight as builders, Luke Follwell and Pete Huigenbos, and three players, Alistair Clark, Steve Orchard, and Ryan Kruyne will be honoured at a special ceremony.
