Queen's suffers tough loss on late goal against No.2 Ottawa

BOX SCORE OTTAWA, Ont. (September 16, 2016) - The Gaels (3-2) played a scoreless game through 85 minutes against the No.2 Ottawa Gee-Gees (6-0) before falling 1-0 on the road Friday night at Matt Anthony Field.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels held their own for most of the match against the top team in the OUA East, the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Queen's played strong defensively, averting the Gee-Gees attacks until the final five minutes. Defender Kayla Da Costa-Pacheco scored a late header goal in the 87th minute to clinch the win for Ottawa. The Gaels hit seven shots on goal, but were unable to beat Ottawa keeper Julie-Anne Lamarche and find the back of the net.

Gaels keeper Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) made six saves in the loss. Laura Callender (Ottawa) managed a team-high three shots on target for Queen's.

There was a familiar face on the Gee-Gees starting lineup, as former Gael Breanna Burton, who played four years at Queen's, most recently in 2014-15, has moved back to her native Ottawa for her Master's.
