KINGSTON, Ont. (August 27, 2016) - Queen's played the UQAM Citadins to a 2-2 draw in their final preseason game Saturday afternoon on Tindall Field.
The Citadins finished 2015 first in the RSEQ conference with only one loss in the regular season, and claimed top spot in the RSEQ playoffs as well.
GAME FLOW
The early minutes of the game were hard fought, but scoreless. The energy on the pitch continued to increase until the Gaels finally broke the deadlock with a goal from
Patrick Van Belleghem (Kenora, Ont.) in stoppage time at the end of the first half.
Tonko Bacelic (Mississauga, Ont.) earned an assist on the play, stealing the ball from the UQAM defender and heading it over the keeper to his teammate.Â
The Citadins didn't waste much time in the second half, establishing some dominant possession after the break. Issam Bousekri tied the game for the visitors in the 59th minute on an unassisted goal. Four minutes later, the Gaels responded to regain the lead with a goal from the substitute Andrew Kim, who headed in a cross from
Michael Kim (Mississauga, Ont.), who picked up an assist on the play.
The scoreline remained 2-1 in favour of the Gaels for over 20 minutes until Alexis St-Hilaire scored for UQAM on a delivery from Kevin Le Nours with just four minutes left in the match. In the final minute, the Gaels Andrew Kim earned a free kick inches outside the box, but the ensuing attempt was blocked by the wall. A Queen's cornerkick followed, but a header from James Michaelis missed wide on the right side to end the game in a 2-2 draw.
