Gaels Snatch a Bye with 2-0 Victory Over Laurentian

SUDBURY, Ont. (October 23, 2016) - The Gaels (11-4-1) defeated the Laurentian Voyagers (9-6-1) 2-0 in the final regular season game of 2016 on the road Sunday afternoon.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels started out strong with high intensity and fantastic ball movement. Queen's quickly took control of the game and began putting heavy offensive pressure on the Voyageurs. The tricolour fired multiple shots on goal in the first half but had no luck in reaching the back of the net. Later on in the first half, Jenny Wolever (Toronto) was slow to get up and was substituted out of the game. At half time the score remained 0-0.

In the second half, Queen's continued to dominate play. The Gaels had shots on net from Matija Skoko (Toronto) and Lidia Bradau (Woodbridge, Ont.), but no one was able to put one past the Laurentian goalie Caitlin McNamara. Finally, in the 81st minute of the game, Tara Bartam (Vancouver) scored the first goal for the Gaels, putting them ahead 1-0. Wolever checked back into the game in the second half, and gave Queen's some breathing room with a late goal to increase the tricolour lead to 2-0.

Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) only had one save on the day to pick up her seventh clean sheet of the season.
