QUEBEC CITY (October 21, 2016) - The Queen's Gaels finished the Rouge et Or tournament in Quebec City at 1-1 after an OT win Friday followed by a loss to the hosts Saturday.
SATURDAY
Queen's 69, Laval 77
Laval earned their first win of the preseason when Queen's fell 77-69 to the hosts Saturday night.Â
The Gaels fell behind early in the game, going down 18-6 at the end of the first quarter. A 28-point second quarter from the tricolour brought the game within reach heading into the second half, as Queen's trailed 38-34.Â
In the third quarter, the Gaels held the deficit to just four points, but Laval started to increase their lead in the final frame. With five minutes remaining, Queen's trailed 68-61. The tricolour failed to narrow the gap in the dying minutes and fell 77-69 to end their tournament.
Tanner Graham (Kingston, Ont.) and
Jesse Graham (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaels offence with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Tanner also had a team-high eight rebounds in the losing effort.
FRIDAY
Queen's 85, UNB 84 OT
The Gaels and Varsity Reds battled in a back and forth affair all evening starting with a 21-19 lead fo the Gaels after the opening quarter. Heading into the third frame Queen's still found themselves out in front but now just by one 54-53.
In the fourth the Varsity Reds finally reeled in Queen's and tied the game at 75-75 to force overtime. In OT the Gaels held strong and came away with an 85-84 victory.
Up next Queen's will meet Laval to close out their weekend at 7pm.
