Kingston, Ont. (October 15, 2016) - The No.7 Gaels started their 2016 playoff run on Homecoming Saturday with a 60-7 win over the York Lions.
GAME FLOW
Miranda Seifert (Regina) wasted no time scoring the first try of the game for Queen's three minutes in, followed by
Nadia Popov (Newmarket, Ont.) kicking her first of five successful conversions. Popov scored a try of her own before Seifert touched down her second of the game at the 29 minute mark. To close out the first half,
Jordi Di Nardo (Toronto) ran into the try zone to make it 26-0 in favour of the Gaels at the break.
The Lions drew first blood in the second half when Dorrian Khouri avoided Gaels would-be tacklers to score. Cat Belanger's conversion was good to give York their only seven points on the day.
Dominique Rumball (Scarborough, Ont.) and
Sadie Stephenson (Oakville, Ont.) responded with tries for the tricolour, followed quickly by Di Nardo's second of the game. Seifert ended her day with a third try for Queen's four minutes before Popov got touched down her second.
Emma Faught (Ottawa, Ont.) rounded out the Gaels scoring with last minute try down the sideline and into the corner of the try zone.
