Syracuse, N.Y. (September 27, 2015)- The Queen's Gaels women's hockey team ended their weekend road trip south of the border with a 1-0 victory over the Syracuse Orange at Tennity Ice Arena.
The lone goal came from rookie forward
Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) who scored on the power-play at the 13:48 mark of the second period.
Alisha Sealey (Elora, Ont.) and
Mary Coughlin (Amherstburg, Ont.) each picked up an assist on the Manourkarakis marker, which was all sophomore netminder
Stephanie Pascal needed to preserve the victory.
The Sudbury, Ont. native made 37 saves to earn the shutout victory, which included turning aside 17 Orange shot attempts in the first period. The Gaels were more disciplined and economical in their approach, scoring one goal in 10 shots for the contest while taking just two minor penalties throughout the contest.
The Gaels wrap up their preseason schedule next weekend when they travel to Montreal and Ottawa for match-ups with McGill and the Gee-Gees on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4 respectively. Queen's opens the regular season at Kingston Memorial Centre on Friday, October 9 when they host the Brock Badgers.
