KINGSTON, Ont. (September 26, 2015) - The Queen's Gaels (3-2-3) saw their winning streak snapped at three games as the UOIT Ridgebacks (4-2-0) came into Kingston and stole a 1-0 decision at Miklas McCarney field in women's soccer action.
GAME FLOWComing in riding a three game win streak Queen's had a chance to put some distance between themselves and UOIT in the standings, despite the Ridgebacks holding two games in hand they sat just three points behind the Gaels.
The Ridgebacks entered today in the midst of a long road trip and got their offence going early. UOIT fired five first half shots at Gaels starting keeper
Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) and a shot off the foot of Alessia Matucci in the 10th minute found its way past the Gaels keeper to the back of the net giving the Ridgebacks and early lead. Queen's fired two shots of their own at the UOIT goal but were unable to even up the score in the opening half.
In the second half the Gaels felt the pressure and turned up their offensive play. They added another four shots at UOIT starting goaltender Helen Frampton but could not solve her as she stopped them all.
The Ridgebacks stayed tight defensively and hung on to their lead to finish with the 1-0 win.
Tyrell stopped five shots that she faced for Queen's while Frampton added five saves to get the win and the clean sheet for UOIT.
