TORONTO (September 25-27, 2015) - The men's volleyball team began their preparation for the upcoming 2015-16 season with their first exhibition action this weekend in Toronto at the Ryerson National Bank Invitational Tournament. The Gaels played four games this weekend starting against York and Ryerson on Friday, Sherbrooke University on Saturday morning and their last game was against Western on Sunday for the Gold Medal Final. The Gaels lost to Western in the final finishing second at the National Bank Invitational Tournament.
Day 1
QUEEN'S vs. YORKThe Gaels opened up the tournament with a matchup against the York Lions Friday at noon.
Matt Golas finished with 11 kills on his 14 attacks to lead the Gaels in a back-and-forth match against the York Lions.Â
The two teams traded sets after four and needed an fifth and deciding contest to determine a winner. True to form the set needed an extra point and it was the Gaels who came out on top with a 16-14 victory.
Jamie Wright finished with 31 assists and five digs while York was led by their setter who aided their attack with 43 assists and five digs of his own.
QUEEN'S vs. RYERSONQueen's second match on the day and of the National Bank Invitational tournament was against the host Ryerson Rams. The Gaels finished off the Rams in four sets after rebounding from an opening set loss whre the team finished with a kill percenatage of 0.125 percent. From there Queen's turned up their game and a pair of 25-21 sets before closing the match out in the fourth with a 25-17 advantage.
Dakic,
Scott Brunet and
Mike Tomlinson all registered double-digit kill marks to lead the Gaels offence while Ryerson saw a strong effort from Robert Wojcik who put up 16 kills for the Rams.
Day 2
QUEEN'S vs. SHERBROOKEThe Gaels dropped their first match of the tournament on day two losing out to Sherbrooke 3-0. The Gaels were never truly in the match and lost by set scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-21.
Marko Dakic finished with seven kills on 11 attackes to lead the Gaels while adding another six digs to his credit in the loss.
Day 3QUEEN'S vs. WESTERNQueen's took down the Mustangs in four sets to close out their round robin play on Sundasy morning. After dropping the first set 25-19 the Gaels rattled off three straight against their rivals taking sets 25-21, 26-24 and 25-16 setting up a repeat match for the tournament gold.
QUEEN'S vs. WESTERN (GOLD)The Gaels match against the Western Mustangs Sunday morning was for the Gold medal final of the National Bank Invitational tournament. The Gaels fell short in the final losing 3-1 in sets, Western took the first two sets by a score of 25-17 and 25-20. Queen's won the third set by a score of 25-21 before eventually losing the fourth set 25-19 to end the tournament.

Dylan Hunt (Aurora, Ont.) who finished with 14 kills to go along with 3 service aces. Gaels setter
Matt Golas (Toronto) also contributed with eight kills, 29 assists, 2 service aces and four digs.
