Abraham Scores Natural Hat-Trick in Gaels 5-0 Exhibition Win over STU

FREDERICTON, NB (September 24, 2015) - The Queen's Gaels headed out East to the Maritimes this week as they continue their exhibition tune-up for the season on the road. The first game was Thursday night versus the St. Thomas Tommies at the Grant-Harvey Centre.

The first period was a stale-mate as each team was held off the score-sheet. The Gaels fired 11 shots on goal, while the Tommies were able to put six on net.

Mid-way through the game, Gaels defenceman Joseph Luongo (Concord, Ont.) headed to the penalty box for slashing. The visitors were able to kill the penalty off, and as Luongo exited the sin-bin, he broke in on St. Thomas goaltender Luke-Lee Knight to snap home the first of the game to give the Gaels a 1-0 lead. The shots on goal were tied after two periods as Queen's took the single goal lead into the third.

Just a few minutes into the final frame it was Patrick McGillis (Calgary) putting away another one for Queen's to double their lead. Less than a minute later, it was Spencer Abraham (Cambellville, Ont.) bringing the team's lead to three with a powerplay marker. Abraham wasn't done there, as he fired home his second of the game 10 minutes laster to give the Gaels a big 4-0.

It didn't end at two for Abraham either, as Queen's went on the powerplay just under four minutes later after a fight and instigating minor penalty by St. Thomas Spencer McColgan. It was none other than Abraham once again scoring the game's fifth goal, completing the natural hat-trick. Each of his goals came in the third and on the powerplay. Patrick Downe (New Maryland, NB) had three assists on the night, two of which came on Abraham's goals.

Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) and Jacob Brennan (Halifax) combined for the shutout splitting time. Bailie stopped 13 and Brennan eight for the combined shutout.

The Gaels now move on to PEI for a game versus the University of PEI in Charlottetown on Saturday.
