De Boer seals 1-0 win in Toronto

TORONTO (September 19, 2015) - The Queen's Gaels (2-1-3) visited the Toronto Varsity Blues (4-2-1) this Saturday and were able to escape with a 1-0 win, their second victory in as many games.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels first and only goal came from Jessie de Boer (North Vancouver, B.C.) in the first half, which ended up as the deciding goal for the rest of the game. The Varsity Blues had six shots to the net and the Gaels had eight but still fell short to the Gaels at the end. De Boer managed a shot after receiving a pass through from Brittany Almeida (Kingston, Ont.) and after her first shot was blocked, de Boer found the ball on her foot again for a second attempt. She fired her second shot just off the cross bar of the net but it bounced right back at her and on her third attempt she made no mistake beating the Toronto keeper.

The Gaels were defensively strong on Saturday limiting the Varsity Blues offensive attack to just a lone shot on goal. Queen's, despite an early lead, applied the majority of the pressure throughout the afternoon and came away with the victory.

Both teams played aggressively as Queen's tallied up one yellow card and six fouls while the Blues had three fouls.

Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) recorded one save against the Blues for the win and clean sheet.
