HAMILTON (February 7, 2015) – Despite their 71-49 loss,
Greg Faulkner (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaels (5-10) with a game high 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds against the No. 4 McMaster Marauders (12-3) this Saturday afternoon.
The Gaels were supported by
Patrick Street (Etobicoke, Ont.) with 12 points and
Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) with nine points and five rebounds. Joe Rocca led the Marauders with 16 points while Aaron Redpath put up 11 points in their win.
The Marauders led from the tip-off, keeping ahead of the Gaels until the final buzzer. The first quarter saw the Gaels put up four points while allowing 18 to the Marauders. The second quarter was more of the same McMaster offensive dominance as they picked up a 38-16 lead over the Gaels to go into the second half.
McMaster didn't slow down after halftime; outscoring the Gaels 20-13 and stretching their lead to 58-29.The Gaels found their footing after the third and hit an 11-1 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter trying to gain some momentum to close the gap that the Marauders had gained. With their three quarter lead, the Marauders had no trouble shutting down a final quarter comeback from the Gaels, topping of the afternoon with a 71-49 win.
The Gaels will now prepare for a big weekend against the top CIS leaders. They will be hosting the No. 2 Carleton Ravens on February 13 and the No. 1 Ottawa Gee-Gees on January 14. Both games are scheduled for 8:00 pm in the ARC Main Gym.
