Gaels sweep No.10 Marauders in straight sets

HAMILTON (February 8, 2015) - The Queen's Gaels (12-6) showcased the depth that exists in the OUA East with an easy 3-0 road sweep of the No.10 McMaster Marauders (14-4) who currently sit atop the OUA West. Set scores finished 25-20, 25-22 and 25-17 in favour of Queen's.

Katie Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) led the Gaels attack with 11.5 points while both Niki Slikboer (Seagrave, Ont.) and Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) each added 10 points apiece. The Gaels attack was set from Ali Shamie (Toronto) who finished with 26 assists while adding seven digs and a solo block.

The Marauders saw a strong performance from Joanna Jedrzejewska who finished with a game high of 14 points.

Queen's was in control for most of the game stretching out leads in each set that were large enough that it afforded the Gaels enough breathing room to take chances and force the Marauders into committing errors. The Gaels held the advantage committing 11 less errors than their counterparts and outserved the Marauders to the tune of 10 aces to two.

With the win the Gaels improve to 12-6 on the season and have secured a playoff spot for the first time since the 2012-13 season. If Queen's is able to beat Guelph and the Rams lose to Ottawa on Sunday the Gaels will move up to third place in the East.

Up next for Queen's they will travel to Guelph tomorrow to take on the Gryphons at 6pm to close out the regular season.
