No.6 Gaels surrender late Goals, lose 3-2 to Laurier to finish their season

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 21, 2015) - The No.6 women's hockey team saw their 2014-2015 season come to an end as they were defeated by the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-2 Saturday night at the Memorial Centre, losing their best of three series 2-0.

The Gaels opened the scoring in the first frame on the powerplay as Danielle Girard (Sarnia, Ont.) tallied her first of the playoffs. Jessica Wakefield (Lucan, Ont.) was credited with the lone assist. Wakefield made a nice move at the side of the goal to get the puck in front and Girard leapt on the rebound to pot the goal.

The Golden Hawks evened the score in the second period on a goal from Jessie Hurrell. Queen's responded and regained their lead as Danielle Bishoff (Calgary) found the back of the net at the 9:00 mark. Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) and Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) collected the assists on Bishoff's first of the playoffs.

The Gaels were unable to fend off Laurier's offence and preserve their advantage in the final minutes of the third frame as the Golden Hawks registered back-to-back tallies to grab their first lead of the night. Queen's could not find the equalizer to force overtime as Laurier secured the 2-0 series victory.

Final shots for the night totalled 29 to 27 in favour of Queen's. Caitlyn Lahonen (Sharon, Ont.) started in net for the Gaels and was charged with 24 save loss while Laurier's Amanda Smith earned the 27 save victory.
