WINDSOR (November 28, 2015) - Queen's took a close 1-0 loss to the Windsor Lancers for the final game of the 2015 calendar year.
The Gaels looked to take their second game versus the Lancers this season, after a 4-1 win at home on November 20th.
Game FlowIn that last game, Queen's opened things up in the third period, scoring three goals in 12 minutes. Then 4:13 into the game, the Lancers would strike first to take a 1-0 lead. Shawna Lesperance netted her sixth goal of the season to put the home team on top.Things opened up in the second period as each team took 11 and 10 shots on net respectively. The Lancers took two penalties in the middle frame, one in the first minute and one in the final minute, but killed off their shorthanded time completely.Â
Both Caitlyn Lahonen (Saskatoon, Sask.) and Ingrid Sandven stood tall to keep the game scoreless in the middle period.The Gaels would fire 8 more shots on net in the third, but the Lancers shut them down and held onto the slim lead. The early first period goal would be all they would need, Windsor took this one by a narrow 1-0 score and Ingrid Sandven would earn her first shutout of the season and first since 2013-14.
