Gaels finish OUA season with a 27-10 victory against McMaster

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 31, 2015) – The Gaels (7-1) wrapped up their OUA regular season with a 27-10 win over the McMaster Marauders (5-3) this Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

GAME FLOW
The first half belonged to the Gaels as Lucas Rumball (Toronto) got things started early, getting across the line to put Queen's up 5-0. Will McArthur (Brantford, Ont.) followed his lead and put down another try for the Gaels eight minutes later, stretching their lead. The Gaels kept up their momentum with a sequence of crisp lateral passes to give Jeffrey MacDonald (Toronto) the lane he needed to put down a try of his own against McMaster. The Marauders found their footing and responded with Callum Macley getting them on the board for the first time in the match. Queen's didn't let them have the final say in the half and put down another try, this time by Matt Beukeboom (Bobcaygeon, Ont.) to get them a 20-5 lead at halftime.

McMaster picked it up in the second, slowing the Gaels down as the two teams fought to find the try line. After 20 minutes of strong Marauder pressure, McMaster powered through the Gaels defense to have Mike Waldock score the first try of the second half. The Gaels flipped the switch and were quick on the response as Michael Douros (Toronto) got down a try followed by a successful conversion by Kainoa Lloyd (Mississauga, Ont.). From there, the Gaels would let the clock run out on their final game of regular OUA season play, taking the match 27-10.

FINAL SAY?
"We were really happy to be tested by McMaster, especially heading into the playoffs. Our defence was solid, I know they snuck through a couple times but 20 minutes in the second half of all defence is hard and any team at any level will score. For our guys to hold on for 20 minutes and only let them in with five, we were quite happy." – Gary Gilks, Head Coach

BY THE NUMBERS
7 – Consecutive wins for the Gaels
78 – Points for Alex Colborne (London, Ont.) this season
10 – Tries for Lucas Rumball this season
