Gaels down Griffins to close out western road trip

EDMONTON, Alta. (October 25, 2015)- The Queen's Gaels men's basketball team defeated the Grant MacEwan Griffins 83-75 on Sunday afternoon in their weekend finale in Alberta, finishing their road trip with a 2-1 record.

Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) led all players with a game-high of 25 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field and finishing 3-of-5 from three-point range. Singh also picked up six assists and six rebounds, while Jesse Graham (Kingston) finished with 15 points and a game-best of seven rebounds for the Gaels, who shot an impressive 48.3% (28-58) overall and 8-of-14 (57.1%) from beyond the arc. The host Griffins shot 36.8% (25-68) and were outrebounded 38-29 by Queen's.

The Gaels, whose bench outscored Grant MacEwans's 33-23, responded to a seven-point deficit early in the second quarter by going on a 20-6 run to overtake the Griffins and move into the lead heading into halftime. Queen's then recorded a formidable 31 points in the third quarter to spread their lead into double-digits by the start of the fourth, and held the Griffins offence to just 16 points in the final quarter to clinch the victory.

The Gaels conclude the pre-season with a 4-4 record, going 1-2 at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) and 3-2 on the road.

Queen's opens up the regular season on Saturday, November 7 against the York Lions at the ARC. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
