Men's Basketball defeated in overtime 96-95 against Lethbridge, beat Alberta Saturday

EDMONTON, AB (October 23, 2015) - The men's basketball team was defeated friday eveving in overtime 96-95 by the Lethbridge Horns in preseason action but bounced back to beat Alberta Saturday.

Despite a late attempt in the final quarter, the University of Alberta Golden Bears fell short of a comeback, the Queen's Gaels taking the final game of the 24th Golden Bears Invitational by a 74-68 score, Saturday night at Saville Community Sports Centre.

Fourth-year guard Sukhpreet Singh led the Gaels with 20 points, netting 42 total points and 10 assists on the weekend. Sophomore Tanner Graham added 18 points and five steals.

In earlier action today, the Lethbridge Pronghorns defeated the UNBC Timberwolves by an 83-56 result, Lethbridge finishing the tournament at 2-0 to claim top spot and their first title for the tournament since 1998. Alberta and Queen's both finish with 1-1 records while UNBC finishes 0-2.

The Gaels got off to a slow start against Lethbridge in the 1st with Queen's only scoring 10 points while giving up 17 to the Horns. The Gaels began to pick up their game in the second quarter as they put up 24 points but was still outscored by the Horns who put up 26 and took as 43-34 lead going into the half.

The second half was a different story for the Gaels as they came out firing in the third quarter. Queen's put up a game high 27 points in the third quarter while only allowing the Horns to score 19 points which cut Lethbridge's lead down to a single point heading into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was a highly competitive battle with both teams going back and fourth exchanging buckets. Queen's put up 23 points to Lethbridge's 22 to force overtime play in their first exhibition game of the weekend. Overtime was another tight quarter with  both teams playing sound defence but the Gaels could not come out with the win losing the overtime and the game by a single point. Queen's were led offensively friday evening by Sukpreet Singh (Toronto) who finished the game with 22 points and 7 assists.
