KINGSTON, Ont. (January 17, 2015) - The Queen's Gaels (10-4) picked up win number 10 of the regular season defeating cross-town rivals RMC (2-13) in straight sets 3-0 on Saturday afternoon with set scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-16.
Queen's was led by middle's
Katie Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) and
Niki Slikboer (Seagrave, Ont.) who were the only Gaels to reach double-digits in point totals with 10 and 11 respectively. Katie finished with eight kills on 17 attacks with no errors while Slikboer hit 10 kills for points for a 0.562 percentage. The Paladins saw a strong effort from Nicole Behnke who finished with 12 kills in the loss.
Defensively the Gaels libero
Becky Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) continued to shine for Queen's finishing with 24 digs while adding five assists in the win. With an average of eight digs per set today she boosts her total on the season to 4.91 which is the second highest mark in the CIS.
The Gaels had little trouble dispatching RMC with the first set, a 25-17 Queen's win, being the closest in the match.
Ali Shamie (Toronto) led the passing game with 11 assists on the afternoon while adding six digs.Â
With the win, the Gaels have now won seven of their last eight matches and taking 23 sets to their opponents six.
The Gaels return to the ARC next Saturday when they take on the top seed in the OUA the Toronto Varsity Blues at 1pm.Â
