Gaels This Week - Gaels men's volleyball welcome No.2 Maruaders Sunday in Game of the Week

The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this weekend. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action at home, or how to follow them on the road.

GAME OF THE WEEK
Men's Volleyball
This weekend the Gaels (8-4) take on the RMC Paladins (0-12) on Friday at 7pm at RMC and the No.2 McMaster Ravens (11-1) on Sunday at 3pm in the ARC main gym in the game of the week.  Last weekend Queen's jumped in to the second half of their 2014-15 season with a bang; defeating the Nipissing Lakers and the York Lions in two back-to-back three set sweeps.  Philippe Goyer (Ottawa) and Mike Tomlinson (Stratford, Ont.) led the Gaels attack against their opponents, causing trouble from all angles of the court.  Tomlinson is currently tied for seventh in CIS rankings, averaging 4.7 points per set for Queen's while Goyer is not far behind at eighteenth with an average of 4.0 points per set.  The Gaels defeated the RMC Paladins earlier this season 3-1 but they have not faced the Marauders who are currently the team to beat in the OUA and have won 11 straight.  Heading into this weekend, Queen's will aim to extend their five-game winning streak.

Women's Volleyball
This weekend the Gaels (9-4) play a single match against the RMC Paladins (2-11) on Saturday at 3pm at RMC.  Last Saturday the Gaels defeated the Nipissing Lakers 3-1 in the opening match of the second half of their 2014-15 season.  They were not as successful last Sunday as the York Lions ended the Gaels six-game winning streak by overtaking them 3-2.  Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) and Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) led the attack for Queen's and finished the weekend with a combined total of 47 kills six aces and 62 digs for the Gaels.  Currently, Hagarty is ranked seventh in the CIS averaging 4.41 digs per set while teammate Becky Wilson (Pickering, Ont) is second averaging 4.68.  Queen's faced RMC earlier this season single-handily defeated them in a three set sweep.

Men's Hockey
This weekend the Gaels (8-10-1) host the Laurier Golden Hawks (5-13-1) on Friday at 7:30pm and the Waterloo Warriors (12-6-1) on Saturday at 7:30pm at the Kingston Memorial Centre.  Last weekend Queen's received a pair of road losses against the York Lions (1-4) and the Brock Badgers (4-6).  Against the Lions Andrew Wiebe (Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored the single goal for the Gaels and on Saturday against the Badgers Kelly Jackson (Scraborough, Ont.) and Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.) were the two goal scorers.  Despite the loss, Greenaway managed to put away three goals against the Badgers putting his goal count at 11 for the Gaels and coming into eleventh place in CIS in goals scored.  The last time Queen's saw Laurier was last season when they defeated them 3-1 but they faced Waterloo at the pre-season Western Invitational where they dropped a 3-2 decision.

Women's Hockey
This weekend the No.4 Queen's Gaels (11-2-3) hit the road as they play a single match this weekend against the York Lions (8-6-2) on Saturday at 2pm in Toronto.  Last weekend when the Gaels were in Toronto they defeated the Ryerson Rams 4-0 and fell to the Varsity Blues 2-1 in a close overtime game.  Gaels captain Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) collected a natural hat-trick against the Rams last Saturday and Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) scored the single goal for the Gaels against Toronto.  As Queen's moved up in the CIS Top 10 rankings this week from fifth to fourth, they are currently sitting in fifth place with 50 goals scored this season.  The Gaels faced the Lions earlier this season in a blowout match, defeating them 5-0 and Caitlyn Lahonen (Sharon, Ont.) picked up her first shutout of the season in a game that was played at the K-Rock Centre in front of over 1,200 fans.

Women's Basketball
This weekend the Gaels (6-3) hit the road as they play a single match this weekend against the York Lions (2-7) on Saturday at 6pm in Toronto. Last week Queen's had a very successful weekend as they won their third and fourth consecutive games in defeating Nipissing 90-34 and Laurentian 89-62.  The Gaels were led by Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) on Friday night against Nipissing as she scored 15 points and veteran Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) on Saturday against the Voyageurs with 19 points.  Queen's defeated the Lions earlier this season as Wright once again led the scoring for the Gaels.  Queen's currently ranks seventh in the CIS averaging 72.1 points per game.  The Gaels will aim to extend their winning streak this weekend against the Lions.

Men's Basketball
This weekend the Gaels (3-6) hit the road as they play a single match this weekend against the York Lions (5-4) on Saturday at 8pm in Toronto.  Last weekend the Gaels came out with a win over the Nipissing Lakers 90-63 but fell 86-76 to the Laurentian Voyageurs, ending their three-game winning streak.  Mike Shoveller (Arnprior, Ont.) and Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) led the scoring for the Gaels weekend as Shoveller finished the weekend with 25 points and Singh with 34 points. Sukhpreet Singh made his season debut with the Gaels after missing the 2014 portion of the schedule due to an injury.  Just before the break, Queen's defeated the York Lions 86-84 in a nail biter of a match as the Lions really pressured to take the lead in the final few seconds.  The Gaels look to get back on track this weekend with the hopes of winning their fourth game of the season.
