ST. CATHARINES, Ont. (January 10, 2015) - The Queen's men's hockey team came within a goal of knotting the game on two occasions but could not find the equalizer as they suffered a 6-4 loss versus the Brock Badgers Saturday night on the road.
The Badgers capitalized on scoring opportunities early on as goals from Sammy Banga, Taylor Fielding and Andrew Radjenovic put Brock ahead 3-0 after the first frame.
The Gaels struck twice in the opening five minutes of the second period with goals from
Kelly Jackson (Scarborough, Ont.) and
Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.). Brock's Greg Jambrosich added a tally to give the Badgers a 4-2 advantage as the middle period came to an end.
Brock collected another to begin the final frame as Banga buried his second on the night to restore the three goal lead. Queen's responded as Greenaway added two more tallies to complete the hat-trick but the Gaels could not net the equalizer. Radjenovic deposited his second of the contest in the final minute into an empty net as the Badgers went on to earn the 6-4 victory.
Final shots for the night totalled 40-38 in favour of Queen's. Goaltender
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) made the start for the Gaels and was charged with the 32 save loss while Brock's Clint Windsor collected the 36 save win.
The Gaels (8-10-1) return to action Friday night when they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks (5-12-1). Puck drop is set for 7:30pm at the Memorial Centre.
