A recap of Varsity Club action from the past week.
CyclingGaels cross country mountain biker, Haley Smith, finished in 23rd as the top Canadian at the U23 World Championships in Hafjell, Norway on Friday.

Smith earned a spot on the World Championship team with breakout performances at the Winham World Cup in New York and the Mont Ste-Anne World Cup in Quebec, finishing ninth and 10th, respectively.

Smith and Gaels start their OUA season on Sunday in Barrie, Ont. at the first University Cup Race of 2014.

qcycle@queensu.caMen's LacrosseThe men's lacrosse team were big winners in their CUFLA home opener on Saturday, crushing Concordia 26-1 on Miklas-McCarney Field. Brendan Zoehner led Queen's with six points on two goals and four assists in the win.

The Gaels also played Toronto in an exhibition game, with Queen's snagging the 11-10 win in overtime.

This weekend, the Gaels travel to the province of Quebec to play at McGill on Saturday and at Bishops on Sunday.

Field Hockey WIn field hockey action, the Gaels played three games at the U of T Invitational and ended up with a 1-2 record on the weekend.

Queen's beat Waterloo 2-0 on goals from
Taylor Herrington and
Denesha Doman. The Gaels fell 3-1 to the Toronto Toros, with
Carolyn Buchanan scoring to briefly tie the game 1-1 before the Toros regained the lead. Against Western, Queen's was shutout in a 1-0 loss.

The Gaels begin their OUA schedule at York on Saturday at 10:45am.

Baseball MÂ
After the Gaels double-header against Ryerson was postponed due to lightning on Saturday, Queen's lost both games of their Sunday double-header to Waterloo, the first game 14-4 and the second game 7-1 in seven innings. Vaughn Rawes had three RBIs in the Gaels first loss.

The baseball team hosts Western on Saturday at 12pm before traveling to play Toronto on Sunday at noon. Both matchups will be double-headers.
