Gaels Fall to Marauders 18-13

HAMILTON, Ont. (September 28, 2014) - The Gaels (3-1) lost their first game in over two years, including regular season and playoff games, on Sunday, falling 18-13 against the undefeated McMaster Marauders (5-0).

The last time Queen's lost was a regular season tilt against Western on September 22, 2012, in which the Mustangs won 22-20.

Sunday's game was rough, with both teams struggling to maintain the lead. The first half started strong for the Gaels with James Dent (Toronto) scoring the first try, completed with a conversion by David Worsley (Vancouver). The Marauders responded with steady offensive pressure, matching the Gaels with a try and conversion to tie the score at 7-7. The teams went head to head to claim the lead with Worsley scoring a penalty kick to put the Gaels back in front. The Marauders were able to squeeze in another try before halftime, leaving the Gaels trailing 12-10 at the break.

The Gaels were quick to regain the lead, as they opened the second half with another successful penalty kick by Worsley, pulling Queen's ahead of the Marauders 13-12. The remainder of the game was full of back and forth action between both teams, with Jamie Leveridge of the Marauders converting on two penalty kicks, allowing McMaster to pull away from the Gaels. The match ended in an 18-12 victory for McMaster.

The Gaels will be back in action next Saturday when they host the Guelph Gryphons on Nixon Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 1pm.
