OTTAWA (September 19, 2014) - The gaels men's hockey team travelled to Ottawa on Friday and earned an overtime victory against the UPEI Panthers in their second preseason game this year. Spencer Abraham (Burlington, Ont.) tied the game at two mid-way through the third before scoring the game winner in overtime.
The Gaels were lead offensively by Abraham who buried a pair of goals on the night, including the overtime winner. Lou Jeffries scholarship recipient Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.) also found the scoresheet as he tallied a goal.
Queen's got out to an early 1-0 lead in the opening period but the Panthers responded with a pair of goals in the second to take the lead. Abraham responded at 11:57 of the third to tie the game and force overtime. In the extra frame the Gaels finished off UPEI on the with Abraham's second of the game, this one coming on the powerplay to take the win.
Both goaltenders
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) and
Chris Clarke (Fall River, N.S.) received playing time as they combined for 29 saves on the night. Final shots for the game were 41-31 in favour of Queen's.
The Gaels continue their preseason action when they travel to London, Ontario on Thursday to participate in the Western Invitational. Queen's is scheduled to battle the tournament host Western Mustangs as well as the Waterloo Warriors.
