HAMILTON, Ont. (September 14, 2014) – No. 2 Gaels (1-1) lost to McMaster (2-0) on Saturday in Hamilton in their second game of the OUA season.
Queen's started the game off with a penalty kick from
Lauren McEwen (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) putting the first points on the board to make it 3-0. McMaster returned with strong offensive attacks, breaking through the Gaels defence, scoring two successive tries and conversions. Queen's turned up the heat and were awarded a penalty try to finish off the first half with a score of 14-10 for McMaster.
The Gaels dominated the beginning of the second half with a hard fought drive capped off with a try from
Miranda Seifert (Regina), putting Queen's ahead 15-14. McMaster was quick to respond with their own try and conversion to retake the lead.
The Gaels fought hard for the rest of the half, and minutes from the final whistle Seifert scored her second try of the game. Unfortunately, the conversion kick went wide leaving the final score at 21-20 for McMaster.
Queen's is on the road again next Saturday, when they travel to play the University of Toronto Varsity Blues at 7:30 pm.
