KINGSTON (September 13, 2014) – A standout performance by the forward line scored the Gaels (2-0) their second shutout of the season, this time over RMC (0-3), in their OUA Home Opener this Saturday on Nixon Field. Despite the rainy weather, the Gaels ended the game up 45-0.
The Gaels were strong on defence early, breaking down the RMC offence, with turnover after turnover weakening their momentum. The Gaels put the first points on the board in the 19
th minute with a driving maul pushing
Brendan Sloan (Peterborough, Ont.) over the goal line for a try and
David Worsley (Vancouver) finishing it off with a conversion.
The Gaels continued their offensive pressure with a dominant forward performance putting yet another maul try on the board by
James Dent (Toronto) and conversion by Worsley. Scoring his first try of the game, Worsley broke through the defensive line in the 37
th minute of the game quickly followed by a try from
Jeffrey MacDonald (Toronto) in the 39th minute and yet another Worsley conversion. The Gaels finished the second half with a 26-0 lead.
Not losing any momentum,
Kainoa Lloyd (Mississauga, Ont.) scored a try for the Gaels in the first minute of the second half. Despite the increased rain, the forwards pushed their way through the RMC defence yet again as
Joseph Yelle (Brantford, Ont.) scored a try and Worsley capped it off with another conversion for the Gaels.
Angus MacPhail (Vancouver) sealed the victory with a try in 69th minute followed by Worsley's fifth and final conversion of the game making the final score 45-0 for Queen's.
The Gaels will be back in action next Saturday at 1:00 pm when they battle the Brock Badgers in St. Catherine's.
