TORONTO (February 19, 2014) - The Gaels exited the playoffs in the first round for the second consecutive season, as the No. 8 Ryerson Rams beat Queen's 86-76 Wednesday night in Toronto.
Queen's finished the regular season last weekend at Ryerson, falling 71-61. The Rams were able to replicate the result on Wednesday in the first round of the OUA playoffs, putting up another 10-point win to end the Gaels playoff run. Ryerson heads to Ottawa to play the No. 2 Gee-Gees on Saturday at 8pm.Â
The Gaels competed from the start, put found themselves down five points after the first quarter. Queen's put together an 11-2 Â run midway through the second quarter, taking a 27-25 lead. The Rams responded with a 10-0 run of their own, taking a 38-33 lead into halftime. The Rams 29-point third quarter was the Gaels demise, with Jahmal Jones hitting a 3-point buzzer-beater for Ryerson.
Roshane Roberts (Vaughan, Ont.) led a fourth-quarter comeback for Queen's, scoring 13 points in the final frame. Jones countered with 10 points in the 4th quarter for the Rams, holding off the Gaels to secure the 86-76 Ryerson victory.
Roberts led all Queen's scorers with 20 points on the night.
Nikola Misljencevic (Ottawa) also had a good night on offense, putting up 19 points on 4/7 shooting from beyond the arc. On the boards,
Mackenzie Simpson (Ottawa) pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds, while also contributing 9 points.Â
Jones led the Rams, who had five scorers in double-digits, with 20 points, shooting 3/4 from the 3-point line.
With the loss, the Gaels season is over. Queen's finished the regular season 10-12, matching their total wins from last season, when the Gaels left the playoffs after a first-round, 13-point loss to Laurentian.
