Gaels beat Laurentian 69-50 for third straight win

| By:
BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (February 1, 2014) - The women's basketball team (12-6) took their second victory of the weekend by winning 69-50 against the Laurentian Voyageurs (4-14) on Saturday evening at the ARC in Kingston.

After the first few minutes of play, the Gaels left Laurentian in their dust by shooting an impressive 41% from behind the three point line and causing 28 Lady-Vee turnovers in the 40 minutes of action.

Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) went 4-5 from the three and led all scorers with 13 points in the first half. Her consistent offensive play led the Gaels into the break with a lead of 37-18. Laurentian struggled to adjust to the Queen's full court pressure, which hurt them on the offensive end by giving them very little time to run effective sets. The Voyageurs made a few adjustments in the second half but it was not enough to keep Queen's at bay. The entire Gaels team made the court appear very small for the visiting team by their constant aggressive ball pressure and early help-side defense.

Adrienne Moreau of Laurentian turned it on offensively mid-way through the third and finished with a game high 18 points. Boag and Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) were the leading scorers for the Gaels with 15 points apiece. Robyn Pearson (Toronto) and Gemma Bullard (Guelph, Ont.) contributed 12 points of their own.

The Gaels are back in action next weekend against Ottawa on Friday night at 6pm. With Ottawa losing to Toronto the Gaels are now tied for second in the OUA East with the Gee-Gees at 12-6. Both teams are two points behind division leading Carleton.
