Gaels Sweep RMC in straight sets

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 7, 2014) - On Friday night the Queen's Gaels (3-2) hosted the RMC Paladins (0-6) taking the game in three straight sets, 25-8, 25-18, 25-15.

Queen's came out strong in the first set, using an effective attack to capitalize on RMC's miscommunications.  With no defensive challenge the Gaels strong left side attack from Shannon Hopkins (North Vancouver) and Niki Slikboer (Seagrave, Ont.) easily allowed the team to overtake RMC 25-8 in a quick first set.

The Paladins answered back in the second set with a higher intensity challenging the Gaels causing multiple attack errors.  This forced a neck and neck match with neither team able to pull away until the 17-point mark when the Gaels turned up the heat with strong serving to take the match 25-18.

Early in the third set RMC came out strong but the Gaels managed to maintain a slight lead.  In the end Queen's pulled away with five straight kills from Hopkins to finish off the set 25-15.

The player of the game for the Gaels was top scorer Hopkins with a game total of seven serving aces, 15 kills and 12 digs for the Gaels.  Slikboer and Alexa Scarcello (Calgary) were also key players, Slikboer on the attack with seven kills and Sarcello with 10 digs on the defensive side.

The Gaels are back in action Sunday at 1pm as they host Ottawa in the ARC.
