WATERLOO, Ont. (October 10, 2014) - The Queen's Gaels finished 1-2 at the 47th Naismith Classic in Waterloo beating Nipissing on Thursday and losing to Waterloo Friday and Grant MacEwen Saturday.

Day 3 - Queen's 64, Grant MacEwan 74

The Gaels lost 74-64 in their final game in the 47th Annual Naismith Classic against the Grant MacEwan Griffins leaving the tournament with a 1-2 record.

The Gaels picked up the early lead in the first quarter going into the second half up 40-29 against the Griffins. MacEwan fought back hard in the second half closing the gap to a one point lead for the Gaels at the end of the third quarter. The Gaels struggled to maintain their three quarter lead but the Griffins dominated the final quarter tying the game before pulling away to finish with a 74-64 win against Queen's.  With this win, the Griffins leave the tournament with a 3-0 record.

The Gaels will be on the road next Friday when they take on Concordia University at 6:00 pm in exhibition play. 

Day 2 - Queen's 70, Waterloo 74

The Gaels fell 74-70 to the Naismith Classic hosts, the Waterloo Warriors, in a close game this Friday evening. 

The Warriors were leading the Gaels 33-22 at halftime. In the second half the Gaels fought back closing the gap and tying up the game 64-64 with four minutes on the clock. It came down the final seconds with the Warriors holding on to a one point lead. With 15 seconds to go Waterloo sunk two shots from the charity stripe to claim a 74-70 victory over Queen's.

The Gaels will continue in the Naismith Classic on Saturday when they play their third game againstr Grant MacEwan at 12:00 pm. 

Day 1 - Queen's 83, Nipissing 81 (OT)

The Gaels men's basketball team grabbed a thrilling 83-81 win against the Nipissing Lakers in the 47th Naismith Classic in Waterloo this Thursday evening.

It was a close first half with the Lakers pulling ahead to lead the Gaels 35-24 at halftime. The Gaels picked up their offence in the second half closing the gap with the Lakers leading 81-79 with 35 seconds on the clock. As has been the trend in their preseason thus far, rather than buckle under pressure, the Gaels overcame adversity forcing the game into overtime.

Both teams fought hard for the win in overtime, but Queen's sealed their victory sinking a buzzer-beating layup with one second on the clock leaving the final score at 83-81.

Next in the Naismith Classic, the Gaels will take on the host team Waterloo Friday night at 8:00 pm.
