Gaels Fall 3-1 Versus Western

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 25, 2014) - The men's hockey team suffered their second loss of the season, falling 3-1 against the Western Mustangs at the Memorial Centre on Saturday night.

Both squads were able to generate scoring opportunities early and often in the first frame but goaltenders Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) of the Gaels and Greg Dodds of the Mustangs were perfect for the first twenty.

The Gaels opened the scoring in the second with a power play tally from Spencer Abraham (Campbellville, Ont.). Abraham's point shot found its way through the screen and into the back of the net to give Queen's the 1-0 advantage. The Gaels had an opportunity to quickly add to their lead but Darcy Greenaway's (Wilton, Ont.) breakaway chance was denied by the pad of Dodds. The Mustangs were able to capitalize on the power play and knot the score after Kyle De Coste completed a tic-tac-toe passing play.

Western quickly grabbed the lead in the final frame as Steve Reese tallied his fourth of the season. Queen's had numerous quality scoring opportunities midway through the final frame on a five-on-three power play but could not bury the equalizer past Dodds. The Gaels continued to generate offensive pressure but could not solve the Western goaltender as the Mustangs added an empty net goal for the 3-1 victory.

Final shots for the game totalled 49-41 in favour of Queen's. Bailie suffered the loss after collecting 38 saves while Dodds earned an impressive 48 save win.

The Gaels (3-2-0) return to action Friday night when they travel to Trois-Rivieres, Quebec to take on the No.4 UQTR Patriots (5-0-0).
