ABBOTSFORD, B.C. (October 17, 2014) – Sinking 18 points and adding four assists,
Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaels to a 75-61 win against the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday afternoon in Abbotsford.
Along with Boag, the Gaels saw a strong performance from
Emily Hazlett (Fredericton, N.B) who put up 14 points of her own. Sarah Wierks was the top scorer for the Cascades with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Nataliia Gavryliuk and Celeste Dyck contributed 13 points of their own to the UFV score.
It was a tense first half with the Gaels picking up the lead and leaving the first half up 39-34. In the third quarter, the Gaels pulled away leading by a nine point margin over the Cascades. UFV responded with quick offensive plays hitting a 14-4 run to lead the Gaels 48-47. Queen's was able to fight back ahead of UFV to grab the lead for the final quarter where they gained a 14 point advantage, their largest in the game. By the final buzzer the Gaels had secured a 75-61 victory over UFV.
The Gaels will finish off their B.C. tour Saturday when they take on Trinity Western at 6:00pm (PST) in Langley, B.C.
