Gaels Fall 58-50 at UBC in exhibition

VANCOUVER (October 16, 2014) - The Gaels experienced their first loss of the preseason on the road against the University of British Columbia on Thursday evening, ending with a score of 58-50 for the Thunderbirds.

After trailing 31-17 at halftime, Queen's mounted a comeback in the third quarter, exploding offensively for 19 points to narrow the margin to 45-36 heading into the final frame. Despite outrebounding UBC 39-33 and scoring 17 points off turnovers, the Gaels couldn't close the gap in time, finishing the game down 58-50.

With both teams struggling from the three point line throughout the game, shooting a combined 5-26 from beyond the arc, UBC won the battle in the key, scoring 36 points in the paint to the Gaels 14.

Robyn Pearson (Toronto) had a big night for Queen's, dominating the boards with a double-double performance of 13 points to go with 13 rebounds. Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) led all scorers at the final buzzer with 14 points and Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) put up seven points of her own.

UBC seized an early lead that they never relinquished thanks to the performances of Kara Spotton who scored 11 points for the Thunderbirds and Harleen Sidhu who scored 10.

The Gaels will continue their B.C. tour on Friday when they take on the Fraser Valley at 3:00 pm in Abbotsford, B.C. for more preseason action.
