Oshawa, Ont. (October 16, 2014) - Rookie Eric Ming's (Williamstown, Ont.) second goal of the season was the decisive tally of the game as the men's hockey team defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 2-1 on the road Thursday night.
The Gaels struck early, scoring just over one minute into the game. Fifth year captain Corey Bureau (Amherstview, Ont.) notched his first of the season while third year Andrew Wiebe (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and rookie Warren Steele (Williamsburg, Ont.) collected the assists.
Queen's doubled their lead early in the final frame on a powerplay goal from Ming. Defenseman Spencer Abraham (Campbellville, Ont.) and Steele earned the helpers. The Ridgebacks cut into the Gaels lead five minutes later after Adam Campagnolo beat Queen's goaltender Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) for UOIT's first tally of the game. This proved to be Bailie's only blemish of the game as he collected 29 saves to earn the victory, while Brendan O'Neill made 31 stops in the loss for the Ridgebacks.
Final shots for the game totalled 33-30 in favour of Queen's. Steele led all skaters with two points for the night.
The Gaels (1-1-0) return to action on Homecoming Saturday at 7:30pm when they take on Concordia (2-2-0) at the Memorial Centre.
