Gaels This Week - Women's Rugby Hosts Western Saturday Night

The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this weekend. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action at home, or how to follow them on the road.

Game of the Week
Women's Rugby
The defending champion women's rugby team will close out the regular season at home this Saturday night against the Western Mustangs at 7pm on Nixon Field. The last time the Gaels faced Western was last season when they beat the Mustangs 30-15 in the OUA semis, advancing them into the OUA championship game. Last weekend, the No.4 Gaels defeated Trent 74-10. Lauren McEwen (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) finished the game with 24 points, setting a new team record with 164 points in her Gaels career. Come out and support the Gaels in their final league game of this season under the lights on Nixon Field.

Men's Rugby
This Saturday the Gaels host the Guelph Gryphons at 1pm on Nixon Field. Last week the Gaels surrendered their first loss in two years, falling 18-13 to the undefeated McMaster Marauders. The Gaels fought hard against the Marauders with David Worsley (Vancouver) and James Dent (Toronto) bringing in the Gaels points for the game. Last season the Gaels beat Guelph 22-3, and this year Quen's will be going head to head in an attempt to hand the Gryphons their first loss of the season.

Women's Soccer
This week women's soccer plays three road games. The Gael's are headed to Ottawa to play Carleton at 5pm on Wednesday, while Queen's will make the trip up north to play Laurentian at 12pm on Saturday and Nipissing at 12pm on Sunday. Earlier this season the Gaels hosted Laurentian and Nipissing and had a shutout against both teams. In a big win against the Trent Excalibur last weekend, the Gaels came out on top 4-0, with captain Jessie de Boer (Vancouver) scoring the two opening goals. Queen's will look to continue their dominance on the road this weekend.

Men's Soccer
Men's soccer plays three games on the road this week. On Wednesday, the Gaels are in Ottawa playing Carleton at 7:15pm. This weekend, the team will be headed to Sudbury on Saturday to play Laurentian at 2:15pm and North Bay on Sunday to play Nipissing at 2:15pm. Earlier this season Queen's had a shutout weekend against Laurentian and Nipissing, getting 6 points for the two wins. Last weekend, forward Eric Koskins (Richmond Hill, Ont.) was an impact player for the Gaels, scoring one goal on Saturday and an assist on Sunday.

Women's Basketball
This weekend Queen's hosts the Tindall Invitational Tournament at the Athletics and Recreation Centre. The Gaels are in action three times, as they play Acadia on Friday at 6pm, Laval on Saturday at 2pm, and Thompson Rivers on Sunday at 2pm.

The next regatta for the Gaels, as well as the Novice races and Overall Queen's-McGill title, will be at the Head of the Trent this Saturday at 9am. Last week Queen's came out on top with their first race of the season at the Head of the Rideau Regatta in Ottawa. The Gaels took home the Kandahar Trophy for the top university team overall, edging out Trent by a single point. Queen's also took home several medals in a grueling 6km technical course.

Cross Country
This Saturday at 10am the Gaels, with both the men and women at No.7 in the CIS rankings, will be competing at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

It's the Gaels bye week in OUA football action. Queen's will play their next game on October 11th at 1pm, when Toronto comes to Richardson Stadium.
