Gaels Clinch win over Laurentian, 63-60

BOX SCORE SUDBURY, Ont. (January 17, 2014) - The Gaels (7-5) got the best of the Laurentian Voyageurs (3-9) in a close match Friday evening, with a 63-60 win.

Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) was the Gaels leading scorer in the win with 27 points, while Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) had 11 and Robyn Pearson (Toronto, Ont.) led the Gaels in rebounds bringing down 13. The Voyageurs were led by Adrienne Moreau (Midhurst, Ont.) who matched Wright's 27 points, while Emma Decloe (Sunridge, Ont.) brought in 17 points for Laurentian.

The Gaels came out defensively strong in the opening quarter of the game, while Laurentian struggled to gain offensive movement, keeping the game evenly matched. Laurentian made a late offensive drive in the final minutes of the second quarter, allowing the Vees to pull ahead and end the half 25-24.

The Gaels continued their momentum in the opening minutes of the third quarter, outscoring Laurentian by one point. The final quarter of play saw the Gaels slowly increasing their lead. By the end of the fourth quarter the Gaels had gained a three point lead, giving Queen's a 63-60 win at the final buzzer.

The win brings the Gaels to a 7-5 record and puts them in third place in the OUA East Division, two points behind the Carlton Ravens who are leading the division with 18 points.

The Gaels next game is on Janaury 18th against Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
