No.5 Redmen Defeat No.10 Gaels 2-1

| By:
BOX SCORE MONTREAL (January 17, 2014) - The No.10 ranked Queen's men's hockey team fell to the No.5 ranked McGill Redmen 2-1 at the McConnell Arena on Friday night in Montreal.

From face off, there was no doubt it was going to be an aggressive game. Two top-10 CIS ranked teams were vying for a victory, and McGill proved to come out on top. In the first period, three penalties were given to Queen's and two for the men in red. This assertive play landed Queen's short-manned. Ryan McKiernan scored McGill's first goal on a power play off an assist from Cedric McNicoll and Samuel Carrier. The Gaels were shut out in the first two periods.

Tyler Moore (Winnipeg) of Queen's scored the first and equalizing goal for the Gaels in the fifth minute with an assist by Joey Derochie (Sudbury, Ont.) and Joseph Luongo (Concord, Ont.). The tie game was short lived as Mathieu Pompei of McGill made the score 2-1 only 26 seconds later. That proved to be the last goal of the game, causing the Gaels to fall to a three game losing streak.

Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) finished the tough game with a total of 36 saves.

The Gaels are back to the ice Saturday night to face-off at Concordia.

On Saturday Brendon Macdonald, Patrick Downe, Ben Walsh and Mike Schug will be at the Cataraqui Centre signing Carr-Harris Challenge Cup posters. Visit the Gaels at the Cataraqui Centre this Saturday for a chance to win free tickets to the Carr-Harris Challenge Cup, or some Gaels Swag.
