Guelph downs Queen's in straight sets

| By:
BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (January 12, 2014) - The Gaels fell 3-0 to the Gryphons on Sunday afternoon in their final home game of January, 25-15, 25-22, and 25-23.

A series of Gryphons errors kept the Gaels in the match early, but a late 10-1 run for Guelph finished any hope Queen's had of winning the first set. Both teams showcased incredible defense throughout the match, but a more efficient Gryphons attack gave Guelph the advantage.

Kelsey Bishop (North Vancouver) was the only Gael to reach double-digits with 14 points on 12 kills, a pair of assisted blocks, and an ace. Defensively, Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) had a team-high 16 digs for the Gaels, while Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) and Shannon Walsh (Perth Road, Ont.) made 11 digs each. Becky Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) and Katie Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) also chipped in on defense with 10 digs apiece.

Kristen Almhjell took charge of Guelph's defense, leading all players with 23 digs in the game. Madison DeDecker also played a standout game for the Gryphons, throwing down 11 kills and popping up 12 digs.

The Gaels start a two-week road trip next weekend as they travel to play at Windsor on Friday and at Western on Saturday.
