Gaels Lose Second Straight

| By:
BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (January 11, 2014) - The Queen's women's basketball team (7-5) lost their second straight home game this time against the Toronto Varsity Blues (5-7) 70-56 Saturday night at the Athletic and Recreation Centre.

The Gaels were hosting Toronto for their Shoot for The Cure fundraiser where coach Dave Wilson would match every point scored in the game. Despite a few great defensive sequences by the Gaels, they were unable to find a consistent rhythm throughout the game. Their shooting woes stemmed from going 3-18 from beyond the arc, while their offensive problems piled up with 20 turnovers in the game.

Jill Stratton's sharp perimeter shooting and offensive leadership helped lead Toronto to their victory where she tallied a game high 25 points. The dynamic defensive duo on the Varsity Blues of Rachel Sider and Vanessa Brathwaite kept the Gaels from rallying back.

The leading contributors for Queen's for the night were Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) with a team high 20 points, Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) with 12 and Robyn Pearson (Toronto) finishing with eight points and 13 rebounds.

Queen's is back to the court next week against Laurentian in Sudbury.
