KINGSTON, Ont. (September 4, 2013) - The No. 7 Gaels lost 2-0 to the No. 4 Carleton Ravens at the West Campus turf field on Wednesday night.
Â
The top-ten matchup was full of high-tempo action from the opening kick-off, with Queen's pressing early, earning two corner kicks in the first three minutes. But the Gaels went into halftime down a goal after Carleton's Joey Kewin beat Queen's keeper
Dylan Maxwell (Vancouver) in the 38
th minute with an off-balance shot from 25 yards out.
Â
The Ravens thwarted the Gaels' attempts to equalize in the second half, and Andrew Latty managed to earn a second goal off a long throw-in at the 55 minute mark.
Â
The game got chippy as in the later stages, with four yellow cards being handed out and a miniature scrum broke out in stoppage time as tempers boiled over.
Â
Maxwell made six saves in the losing effort, while Carleton's keeper Callum Ayre had a one-save clean sheet.
Â
The 0-1 Gaels hit the road Sunday to battle the 0-2 Trent Excalibur at 3:15 p.m., while Carleton play at home against RMC.
