KINGSTON, Ont. (September 22, 2013) - The No. 2 Gaels couldn't make up a two-goal deficit against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday, losing their first game of the season 2-1 at the West Campus Turf Field.
Â
The Gaels fell behind in the 24th minute, after Queen's keeper Michaila Frawley made one of her eight saves on the initial shot, and Toronto's Aisha Lewis buried the rebound. The Varsity Blues increased their lead to 2-0 when Nicki Parkes' shot found the top right corner in the 37th minute.
Â
Rachel Radu (Ottawa) responded for the Gaels in the 38th minute, finishing a cross from Jennifer Siu (London, Ont.) with a volley past Toronto goalkeeper Sara Petrucci. The Gaels managed nine shots in the game, but were unable to beat Petrucci again to tie things up.
Â
The Gaels (4-1-3) play at home next Saturday, when they take on the Trent Excalibur (0-7-1) on the West Campus Turf Field at 1pm.
